The Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA) is asking state officials to let member hospitals temporarily determine Medicaid eligibility, the Boston Business Journal reported. The MHA wants to avoid charges from patients whose coverage is in limbo. The association hopes to take advantage of a special hospital presumptive eligibility process under the Affordable Care Act that would allow hospital workers to give applicants seeking free care a streamlined form to determine temporary Medicaid coverage. Applicants would then have an additional two months to go through the longer Medicaid process. Patients can currently get free care through the state's Health Safety Net, but have no coverage for post-acute services or medications. Meanwhile, the Massachusetts Health Connector website to determine eligibility for Medicaid and other health programs isn't working. Article
