Kentucky gives APRNs more authority to write prescriptions

Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) in Kentucky now have the authority to write prescriptions for non-scheduled legend drugs, KyForward reports. This week Gov. Steve Beshear (D) signed Senate Bill 7, which creates an oversight committee for a program allowing APRNs to collaborate with physicians to prescribe the drugs. The bill, designed to improve patient access to high-quality primary care and medications, also allows APRNs to begin prescribing routine medications independently after writing prescriptions under the supervision of a physician for four years. Article
