Kaiser left dead patients on kidney transplant list

Disturbing news continues to come out of the failure of Kaiser Permanente's kidney transplant program, which closed in May when extremely serious deficiencies were discovered. So critical were the problems with Kaiser's program that they triggered a national investigation of transplant centers.

Now, the Los Angeles Times is reporting that the Kaiser program left the names of 90 dead patients on their national waiting list, some of whom had died as far back as 2004. State regulators found the names after the program shut down, as it worked to transfer 2,300 patients awaiting kidneys to other hospitals. Kaiser officials blame a data-processing backlog for the flawed list.
