Jury refuses to indict New Orleans physician

Years after the dark days of Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Anna Pou finally can breathe a sigh of relief. This week, a jury refused to convict Pou of murdering hospitalized patients in the days after the hurricane. Since the 2005 storm, Pou has been working at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.

Pou and two nurses were accused of killing nine inpatients at the city's Memorial Medical Center. State Attorney General Charles Foti accused Pou, along with nurses Cheri Landry and Lori Budo, of administering lethal injections to the patients. (The case against the nurses already was dropped.)  Pou since has sued the state and Foti, asking that Louisiana pay for her legal defense in a thicket of civil wrongful-death suits filed against her in relation to care she gave after Katrina.
