IT: Vendors eye landmark HHS contract

A number of major players are weighing bids for the National Health Information Network (NHIN) contract announced last week by the Department of Health and Human Services. Perot Systems is considering a bid for the NHIN job, while Computer Sciences Corp. says it is interested but not as a prime contractor. One estimate concludes the combined value of the contracts to build the prototype is at least $60 million. EDS and Northrup Grumman are also weighing bids. HHS is also seeking vendors to create privacy and security policies and to develop data and certification standards.
