IT: RHIOs test prototype of national network

It was a big week for RHIOs as the non-profit Connecting for Health collaborative announced that three of the nation's leading local networks will participate in a trial of a simulated national health information network. The project will link Boston-based MA-Share, California's Mendocino SHARE and the Indiana Health Information Exchange of Indianapolis. Officials involved with the project note that each of three networks takes a very different approach to managing and transferring data, making the prototype a good simulation of the challenges involved in creating a system on the national level. The initative is being funded by a $1.9 million grant from the the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Markle Foundation.
