IOM to monitor patient safety risk in health IT

With an estimated 44,000 to 98,000 lives lost each year due to medical errors at hospitals, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) is turning its attention specifically to patient safety as it relates to the evolving health IT world, in a recent report. The IOM has proposed the creation of a new watchdog agency to monitor healthcare organizations.
