An Indiana hospital will form its own independent police department in an effort to ensure officers receive consistent training appropriate to the setting and so the hospital doesn't drain resources from the community, The Star Press reported. Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie will hold a swearing-in ceremony April 3 thanks to state legislation signed last year that allows a hospital's governing body to establish a police force. "We've been doing a lot of research and a lot of work to prepare us to get us to this point. We feel as an organization it would better benefit not only our patients, but the staff and the community, also," said future police Chief Doug Hale, who serves as manager of the hospital's security department.
