Illinois hospital move would lengthen ambulance rides

A proposed move of Silver Cross Hospital from its current location in Joliet, Illinois, to a new facility in nearby New Lenox likely would increase the distance ambulances would have to travel because the new site is eight miles away from Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center, compared to the current four-mile separation, Joliet officials say. In fact, the Joliet City Council Thursday passed a resolution opposing the plan for Silver Cross to leave the place it's called home since 1892, hoping to influence the decision of the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board, which must approve new hospital construction in the state.
