How one health system helps patients vote

Utah-based Intermountain Healthcare hospitals offer services to allow patients to vote using "emergency absentee ballots," according to the Daily Herald. Intermountain has offered the service for 15 years and this year collected 39 ballots, an all-time high. Hospital officials gather the names and home addresses of patients wishing to vote from the hospital, taking them to the elections office in Provo, where officials informed of the initiative are prepared to pull the ballots based on the patient addresses. "It's really neat to be able to approach the patients and tell them we have an opportunity for them to vote," Ethan Shumway, communications and community outreach director of Intermountain Healthcare's south region, told the Herald.
