Hospital sued for revealing patient HIV status again, lawsuit claims

The University of Wisconsin Hospital faces another lawsuit for allegedly revealing the HIV status of one of its patients, The Wisconsin State Journal reported Friday. The lawsuit claims the hospital breached confidentiality protocol twice in this case, first when a UW Hospital resident delivered the HIV test results to the patient's wife and son when the patient was sleeping, and again when the medical staff discussed the patient's condition in front of his sister.

This is the second lawsuit filed against the UW Hospital in the past 12 months regarding improper handling and unauthorized release of HIV-status information. The first lawsuit was filed in October after a physician allegedly revealed a patient's HIV-status to his mother without the patient's permission. Article
