HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius calls for faster change in payment models

Healthcare providers have an obligation to try new payment models that can help lower the growth rate of health spending, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Monday at the AcademyHealth National Health Policy Conference in Washington, D.C.

Although healthcare spending has slowed down at historically low rates, the United States still spends 1.5 times more on healthcare than any other country, MedPage Today reported. Sebelius urged providers to adopt changes to payment models and care delivery faster. She also called on governors to expand Medicaid in their states. Article
