HHS: Health reform improves care for LGBT patients

The Affordable Care Act includes some provisions that aim to address the disparities in healthcare for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Americans, and U.S. Department of Health & Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said they're working. "I am proud to say that we have been working hard to ensure LGBT Americans have the same rights and protections as other Americans," she said Tuesday in a statement.

Sebelius highlighted some of the provisions that reduce disparities among LGBT patients, including: Rules requiring Medicare and Medicaid-participating hospitals allow visitation rights for same-sex partners, and major national health surveys beginning to include data on LGBT groups. Statement
