Heart risks reduced with gastric bypass surgery

A study conducted by Dr. John A. Batsis of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire found that obese people who undergo gastric bypass surgery have a significantly reduced risk of having a heart attack. The study reports that for people who have had the weight-loss surgery, "the predicted chance of having a heart attack or needing heart surgery or dying of heart disease over 10 years fell from 7.0 percent to 3.5 percent."
