Heads keep rolling in Army medical scandal
Another high-ranking military official has lost his job in the wake of the scandal over grossly inadequate care for soldiers, particularly at the Army's Walter Reed Medical Center. This time, it's the Army's surgeon general, Lt. Gen. Kevin C. Kiley, who turned in his resignation yesterday. The resignation came on the same day as the Army released a report admitting that they'd known about the problems with overall military medical system. Kiley, who is being blamed for some of the worst problems at Walter Reed, had served as commander there from 2002 to 2004 prior to being named as surgeon general. Observers say that Kiley's retirement is not the last--that the military is likely to push other senior officers overboard even before its formal investigation into problems at Walter Reed is completed. Prior to Kiley's departure, the Army had fired current Walter Reed commander Maj. Gen. George W. Weightman and Army Secretary Francis Harvey.
