Global costs of cancer care continue to rise

Global spending on cancer is now on par with the gross domestic product of Hong Kong, the planet's 35th largest economy, according to a new report from The World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) on the rising costs of cancer treatments. The global healthcare community highlighted early findings from the report today in honor of World Cancer Day and will release the entire report at its summit in Qatar later this month. The report will feature projects and findings that could improve treatments and lower costs. "Our aim is to develop a plan to encourage governments, policymakers and large healthcare organizations to take up and recognize the problem of affordability… What we want is a plan which will help patients in the long term,"  said Robert J. S. Thomas, chair of the WISH forum. Announcement
