Feds crack down on MD, Internet pharmacies

Federal prosecutors have indicted a Philadelphia physician for trafficking in $8.75 million worth of diet pills. Separately, five individuals have been charged in illegal Internet pharmacy operation that generated more than $33 million. The doctor, Albert Kofsky of Huntingdon, PA, distributed the pills through a fake medical practice, hiring his cleaning lady to masquerade as a nurse. Operators of the  pharmacies, Universal Pharmacy Solutions (also of Huntingdon) and Rx Medical  One, Santa Monica, CA, were charged in an 85-count federal grand jury indictment with illegal distribution of controlled substances, mainly weight-loss drugs, over the Internet. The indictment alleges that no doctor ever saw or examined customers before an order was approved.
