As a Londoner by birth and upbringing, yesterday's news about the terrorist attack was more than a little personal for me. But once I tracked down family and friends, two thoughts occurred to me. The first is that a number of ambulance (EMT) personnel, doctors, nurses and other first responders automatically showed up to help on their day off without being asked. The same thing happened in New York in 2001. This demonstrates the everyday heroism of those in the caring professions, once again. My other thought is that there are limits to what we can do to cope. This scale of attack was big but nowhere near as devastating as it could have been, and yet a city as experienced in terrorism as London literally ran out of ambulances. My thoughts are with those who didn't get good news from their friends and family. - Matthew
