Duke, LifePoint to collaborate on patient safety venture

Duke University Health System and LifePoint Hospitals have entered into a "national quality agreement," aimed at enhancing patient safety in their organizations as well as nationwide, MarketWatch reports. Duke already had a clinical affiliation with Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Virginia, when LifePoint acquired the facility in 2005; the two entities formed Duke LifePoint Healthcare--which operates 12 hospital campuses spread across four states--in 2011. LifePoint then became part of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Hospital Engagement Network aimed at sharing best practices to reduce hospital-acquired infections. The successful completion of that initiative, in turn, led to Duke and LifePoint's current patient safety collaboration. Article
