The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on Monday removed a measure from the hospital outpatient quality reporting set. CMS took out OP-16--for Troponin results for emergency acute myocardial infarction or chest pain patients received within an hour of arrival--because of patient safety concerns. OP-16 doesn't name which types of lab equipment providers must use for tests, but in light of a recent recall of certain point-of-care testing kits, CMS said it "will not publicly report, validate or use in [calendar year] 2013 payment determination [on] any data collected on this measure."
