Chutes & Ladders: Aetna's management changes continue

Aetna shares were up yesterday after the company got an upgrade from a JP Morgan analyst Scott Fedel and named a respected Harvard medical school professor as chief medical officer. Observers say the upgrade reflects growing confidence in the company's future under new CEO Ronald A. Williams, who takes office Feb. 15. Harvard's Dr. Troyen A. Brennan moves to Aetna from Brigham and Women's Physicians Organization where he served as president and CEO. He is charged with working to improve the company's sometimes difficult relationship with physicians, a process that began during the tenure of departing CEO John Rowe.
