Capella cuts top executive spots at hospital

Southern-based hospital chain Capella Healthcare eliminated two top executive positions at one of its hospitals last week in an attempt to usher in an era of sharing resources, according to a statement issued by the health system. In an arrangement designed to spread management resources across two hospitals, the CEO and CFO of 120-bed Parkway Medical Center in Decatur, Ala., will also serve in those capacities for Hartselle, a 150-bed full-service hospital in Hartselle, Ala.

Streamlining management like this is not uncommon, Tom Dolan, president of the American College of Healthcare Executives told FierceHealthcare. "It tends to happen to smaller hospitals," he said. How it's done will depend on the local situation and how large and complex the organization is.

Tim McGill will serve as CEO and Danny Crowe as CFO for both hospitals.

For the next 90 days, the outgoing CEO Butch Naylor, who was named to the position last November, will help the team through the transition. Rodney VanDonkelaar, Hartselle's former CFO, recently was promoted to CFO at sister hospital Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, Tenn.
