CA medical center plans $1.3B expansion

The University of California has set plans to raise $500 million or more to build a new 289-bed, $1.3 billion facility. The new campus, which will include women's, children's and cancer treatment facilities, is the first phase in developing a larger hospital campus. The campus will include a 183-bed children's hospital, a 36-bed women's hospital and a 70-bed cancer hospital. Execs with the university say the new facility, to be known as UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay, will go high-tech, integrating advanced robotic and imaging technology.
