The benefits of pharmacist-doc collaboration

Collaborative care with pharmacists can benefit both patients and physicians, according to an article in the Canadian Medical Association Journal. With proficiency in drug dosing, drug interactions and pharmacology, the expanding scope of pharmacists' care can help in providing vaccines, managing chronic conditions, reducing drug-drug interactions and preventing emergency room visits. "As pharmacists more actively participate in medication management tasks, physicians should be aware that in inter-professional models of care, every member of the team is individually accountable for the care he or she provides, and is not to be held directly liable for the acts of others," the authors, a physician and a pharmacist, wrote.
