NIH: American Ebola-infected patient now in critical condition

An American clinician being treated for Ebola at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, is now in critical condition, according to a statement. "NIH physicians have changed the status of the patient with Ebola virus disease being treated at the NIH Clinical Center from serious to critical condition. No additional details about the patient are being shared at this time," it reads. The patient works for Partners in Health, a Boston-based group employing 2,000 people in West Africa, including 100 expatriate clinicians, FierceHealthcare has previously reported. Ten other clinicians who helped the Ebola-infected patient are being evacuated to the United States where they will self-quarantine at the NIH, Emory University Hospital in Atlanta and the Nebraska Medical Center, where they can receive speedy treatment if symptoms arise.
