Academic medical centers train 'proceduralists'
Comments
I would like to suggest residents, attendings attend hospitals whom offer trauma expericence. I was a radiology student in Dallas, Texas, at El Centro college. The Board for Radiology at that time specified we as radioloy students were going to become familiar with the interdisicplianry skills in the hospital field, participate at trauma hospitals as well. The reason for this was because most of Dallas Hospitals are ranked qualitatively. Most hospitals vision is the 5 star hospital much like a hotel. Our professional teachers whom also are and were on the Board for ARRT, trained all of their students for trauma. Secondly, my mom whom is a RN refused to allow me to continue in NYC without understanding the nursing administrations hands on. DorisRN forced her parentship out of care for her field and enrolled me into a nursing Aid school.
I then graduated and became a private duty nurses aid/ private contractor-- however, it was hard as far as understanding bureacracy in large hospitals; when nurses were threatening strike they refused to take position and responsibility before the strike began, therefore I walked and signed on as a full time nurse technician- because I had too many skills for a nursing aid/mental health tech. This is not to upgrade or down grade hospitals. But, Beth Israel Medical Center was a hospital which functioned on observation, progress notes, and treatment. There vision is recovery is as soon as the patient enters our admittint process. I worked along side with the resident doctors. There were times I was doing lower grade surgeries like debridement, while the surgeorns performed pleurovac strategies on patients whom had pleurisy. ostomy care, irrigations of ostomies, nasogastric tubing insertions, I saw with mine own eyes what the residents could perform while I performed ekg's or blood draws, or observed the patient while a pleurovac was being inserted or a nasogastic tubing. Perhaps the colleges should discuss this with hospitals. The chief's at Beth Isreal medical center were teachers, parents, and our brothers and sisters. Presently, I have enough credits and background to seek out what other courses I need to take before passing the Mcat and applying for the doctors and surgeons program, I had 3 failed spine injuries, but if this last surgery becomes the ticket to obliterate pain a general practitioner or a urologist would be my field of choice, because of all the exposure I have had in trauma hospitals. I do not what to divulge any of the surgeons names whom assisted in brigding me over, I believe all surgeons assist his or her students and prepare him or her for the real world as well as the parents. My mom is supermom, because she got pregnant in the beginning of her nursing career and we have made it together. Therefore it is the lack of exposure to trauma.
My wording was a bit jumbled perhaps if I list my thoughts.
1. resident doctors can obtain better work experience if he or she is put in the traum hospitals.
2. Attending residents can also benefit by working in the trauma environment with his or her resident team
you many continue to read the top version. I have spinal pain and I the pain transfers to my speech and my typing until the next surgery.
