More parents are turning to retail health clinics to treat their children for minor illnesses rather than their pediatricians, according to a new study in JAMA Pediatrics. Seventy-four percent of the 1,484 parents surveyed said they decided to go to a retail clinic rather than the pediatrician for one of the following reasons: The clinic had more convenient hours; no pediatrician office appointment was available; they did not want to bother the pediatrician after hours; or they thought the problem wasn't serious enough.
