While many Americans take antidepressants, few are familiar with--or comfortable discussing--more serious forms of mental illness such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. Now, a group of mentally-ill (but highly functional) people are taking to the streets to change this. In much the same way as gay-rights advocates claimed the word "queer" as a term of honor, such advocates are calling themselves "mad," with more active participants organizing "mad pride" events across the globe.
