Self Regional Healthcare Chooses RelayHealth to Build Local Health Information Exchange and Support Accountable Care

Hospital and community physicians to benefit from HIE clinical integration

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Self Regional Healthcare today announced that it has selected RelayHealth as its health information exchange (HIE) partner to help local physicians improve care coordination for the quarter of a million area residents in the Lakelands region of upstate South Carolina. Additionally, the RelayHealth health information exchange solution can be used by eligible providers to demonstrate Stage 1 “Meaningful Use” requirements to earn stimulus funds in 2012 and also to support plans for an accountable care organization.

“One of the biggest factors in our decision to invest in RelayHealth is our clinical workflow integration success with McKesson,” said Chuck McDevitt, vice president and CIO, Self Regional Healthcare, noting that the facility has used McKesson’s Horizon Clinical Suite for more than a decade.

“We consider RelayHealth a key partner in our ability to exchange health information locally and, eventually, state-wide with providers across South Carolina,” McDevitt continued. “At the same time, we plan to leverage their HIE capabilities to support the clinical integration needs of an accountable care organization.”

Self Regional Healthcare will implement three RelayHealth solutions: RelayClinical™ Messaging, to provide secure electronic messaging for its 75 employed physicians and their patients; RelayClinical Orders solution that will link the hospital with approximately 250 ambulatory-care physicians to automate the lab ordering process and RelayClinical Results that enables physician users to choose to release lab results to patients’ personal health records via RelayHealth, enhancing the patient-provider relationship and promoting better care .

According to McDevitt, the implementation of RelayClinical Orders will create seamless orders workflow from physician’s certified EHRs into the hospital patient registration system and replace the manual process that community physicians currently use for lab orders. The RelayClinical Platform will also enable physicians to exchange radiology orders, results, and transcribed reports with Self Regional regardless of the EHR system the physicians have in place. Physicians without an EHR will be supported as well.

“When the inbound lab or radiology order is released, the outbound results can flow seamlessly between the hospital and our affiliated physicians,” McDevitt noted. “We expect that RelayHealth will lay a strong foundation that we will leverage as we move toward accountable care.”

“RelayHealth is proud to extend McKesson’s long-time relationship with Self Regional Healthcare by bringing unique value in establishing a HIE to achieve important Meaningful Use and accountable care goals,” said Jim Bodenbender, President, RelayHealth Connectivity Solutions. “Our advanced connectivity and workflow integration capabilities support secure, collaborative and efficient information exchange to successfully enhance the physician and patient experience.”
