TORONTO & PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Radimetrics, a provider of radiation dose monitoring and management software, and Montage, a provider of software for radiology data mining and performance measurement, today announced a technology partnership to provide innovative tools for hospitals and imaging centers to comprehensively analyze their medical imaging data. Integration of the two technologies will bring powerful new options for searching, displaying, and reporting on both the contents of the radiology report and associated radiation dosage data.

Demonstrations of the technology will be available at the vendors’ booths during the Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, November 27 through December 2 in Chicago. Radimetrics will be exhibiting its products at Booth# 7800 (North Building) and Montage will be exhibiting at Booth #1008 (Lakeside Center.)

“The onus is on the medical community to monitor and reduce unnecessary radiation exposure. Using technologies such as those from Radimetrics and Montage, we have the potential to address this important challenge in a way not previously available,” says Eliot Siegel, MD, Professor and Vice Chairman at the University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Radiology and chief of radiology and nuclear medicine at the Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System. “These tools help us to substantially reduce radiation exposure and respond more rapidly and effectively. This capability is especially important among subsets of patients who are vulnerable because they are subject to multiple, repeat CT exams, such as young patients with Crohn’s disease or kidney stones.”

Estimating radiation dose in medical imaging is becoming increasingly important as today’s organizations face regulatory requirements, competitive positioning pressures, cost containment challenges and consumer inquires related to radiation overexposure. Radimetrics technology provides ‘at-a-glance’ visualization of single organ, whole body, and time-cumulative dose information. With this technology agreement, this information can be readily reviewed on subgroups of patients and exams retrieved via Montage’s search, patient timeline and analytics solutions.

Radimetrics President Gregory Couch says, “Across the industry, healthcare organizations are searching for tools that help them fulfill their commitments to the ALARA principle. Users of an integrated Montage-Radimetrics solution can use information to make better decisions at the point of care, and also to assist with making operational refinements such as optimized CT protocoling.”

“From a patient safety and overall quality perspective, radiology departments must take a more comprehensive approach to data monitoring. This must include a commitment to tracking dosage volume at both organizational level and individual patient care levels,” says William Boonn MD, President of Montage. “We are pleased to bring our customers a new option for addressing the realities of today’s very real and very serious radiation overexposure issues.”
