Northern Indiana health system also to deploy Allscripts Emergency Department automation in six hospitals

CHICAGO and FORT WAYNE, Ind., April 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX) announced today that Parkview Health System, Inc., one of Northeast Indiana's largest healthcare providers,  has selected the Allscripts Electronic Health Record (EHR), Practice Management (PM) and Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) solution to enhance the quality of patient care, improve patient communications, and better manage the cost of care delivery for employed and affiliated physicians.  Parkview also will deploy the Allscripts Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) to automate administrative and patient care processes in six hospitals that together had more than 100,000 Emergency Department visits in 2009.

Parkview Health is a not-for-profit, community-based health system serving a population of 875,000 with six hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health and hospice, and the physicians of Parkview Physicians' Group.  Parkview was featured in a March 25 New York Times article on health systems that are growing quickly by acquiring physician practices and often providing them with an Electronic Health Record to improve patient safety, quality of care and system efficiency.

"Parkview Health is pleased to be a partner with Allscripts as we work together to enhance our ability to meet the needs of physicians, clinical staff and patients," said Ron Double, Chief Information Officer of Parkview Health. "Parkview Physicians' Group has grown to 170 physicians. As our physicians work together to improve systems of care, this new initiative will better equip us to utilize the latest technology to provide the best patient-centered care to patients and their families."

Parkview will implement the Electronic Health Record for all 170 Parkview Physicians' Group physicians throughout northeast Indiana.  Each location also will replace its existing practice management system – many of which are legacy Misys PM systems – with the Allscripts Practice Management solution for integrated clinical and back-office functions.

The group also will deploy the Allscripts Revenue Cycle Management solution providing an easy-to-use, secure method for electronically submitting insurance claims to payers quickly, accurately and cost effectively. Allscripts Revenue Cycle Management is used by thousands of physician groups across the U.S. to process more than 260 million claims annually and 500 million revenue cycle management transactions.

As the physicians' group continues to grow, Parkview will provide the integrated EHR-PM-RCM solution to many additional physicians.

Allscripts Innovation

As part of its Allscripts deployment, Parkview Medical Group will provide its physicians with a number of Allscripts innovations designed to deliver patient information when and where it is most needed:

  • Allscripts Prenatal™, the first stand-alone and EHR-integrated Software as a Service (SaaS) solution to address the unique workflow and cross-provider information sharing needs of prenatal care. Allscripts Prenatal enables real-time sharing of patient information between all settings and provides an easy-to-navigate web-based version of the paper forms used today by most physicians providing obstetric care.
  • Allscripts Patient Portal, enabling patients to play a larger and more important role in their own healthcare management while helping the practice to save time, lower costs and increase revenues.
  • Allscripts Clinical Quality Solution (CQS) delivers clinical decision support information at the point of care and automates the time-consuming process of participating in Pay-for-Quality programs.
  • Allscripts Remote provides remote access to the Electronic Health Record via iPhone™, BlackBerry® or Windows® smart phones. With Allscripts Remote, physicians can safely make critical medical decisions even when they are away from the office, with all relevant information available on the one device they keep closest.

"Parkview Health's decision to implement Allscripts across its physician network, for affiliated physicians and in the Emergency Department is an example of a leading healthcare system building a connected system of health to advance our national goal of delivering higher quality care at lower cost," said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. "Parkview's physician practices can take advantage of our full suite of practice management and revenue cycle solutions for improved efficiency and lower costs while leveraging our focus on innovation to deliver new ways of accessing vital patient information at the point of care."

Allscripts will enable Parkview Health to bridge common information gaps so that caregivers in the hospital and physician offices can access real-time information on shared patients.  This improves the coordination of care, reduces duplication and streamlines administration.  In addition to integrating the Electronic Health Record with the Emergency Department Information System, Allscripts will provide connectivity between all of its solutions and Parkview Health's inpatient health information system, making information such as electronic discharge notes, patient demographics, lab orders and test results available to caregivers and staff inside and outside the hospital.

The Allscripts Emergency Department Information System streamlines processes for the entire Emergency Department, including tracking, triage, nurse and physician charting, disposition and reporting. Integrated features include "one-click" access to individual patient charts, the ability to view multiple charts simultaneously, to track the entire patient treatment experience at a single glance, and alerts that notify the clinician of overdue treatment times, medication conflicts and conflicting orders.
