Florida Woman Care Expands Relationship with athenahealth to Drive Better Clinical Performance Statewide

Leading OB/GYN medical group will leverage athenahealth’s suite of cloud-based services to further enhance practice management and patient care

BOCA RATON, Fla. & WATERTOWN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- athenahealth, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATHN), a leading provider of web-based practice management, electronic health record (EHR), and patient communication services to medical groups, today announced that Florida Woman Care (FWC), one of the largest OB/GYN medical groups in Florida, has selected athenahealth’s EHR service, athenaClinicals®, to provide to its network of 170 physicians a fully scalable, and cost-effective way to share health information, ultimately bringing efficiencies to FWC’s workflow and improving its ability to deliver coordinated, high-quality care. The group will also adopt athenaCommunicator®, athenahealth’s patient cycle management tool designed to manage patient interactions triggered by practice staff or by automated routines within athenaNet®, the Company’s centrally-hosted national platform.

As part of this relationship, athenahealth’s EHR service will work seamlessly with athenaCollector, athenahealth’s cloud-based medical billing and practice management service, which Florida Woman Care has successfully used during the past year to alleviate front office administration hassles and to streamline operations for a growing network of providers.

“One year ago we were a 30-physician group. Today, we are at 170 physicians and growing and athenaCollector has been a critical element behind this expansion. athenahealth’s services are inherently flexible and quick to deploy because they are delivered over the Internet. This means athenahealth can get our new providers up on its network, recognizing revenue and running their businesses more efficiently in a short amount of time,” said Kenneth A. Konsker, MD, President of FWC. “By extending athenahealth’s clinical and patient communication offerings to our physicians, we can further advance our mission of helping them get out from under the hassles of running a practice and focus on providing first rate patient care to women across Florida.”

Jonathan Bush, Chairman and CEO of athenahealth commented, “The growth that Florida Woman Care has seen in one year is a testament to our cloud-based practice management solutions and the immense benefit they can bring to a medical group looking to use technology to scale, manage costs and provide the very best care they can without having to unnecessarily allocate resources away from the patient. Like Florida Woman Care, we are interested in positioning medical practices for more than simply meeting Meaningful Use thresholds. We take on the back office functions and the exchange of valuable clinical information to let doctors turn to the business of care.”
