Cleveland Medical Mart & Convention Center (CMMCC) and Positively Cleveland have announced that the 2014 CleanMed Conference & Exposition, presented by Practice Greenhealth and Health Care Without Harm, will be held at Cleveland Medical Mart & Convention Center (CMMCC) in downtown Cleveland May 12-16, 2014. CleanMed 2014 is expected to welcome hospital administrators, clinicians and staff as well as businesses and organizations servicing the health care community for a five-day conference and is expected to utilize more than 32,000 square feet of exhibit space in the new Cleveland Convention Center, scheduled to open in July, 2013. CMMCC is managed by Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI).

"Cleveland is the perfect fit for this conference, as it is home to the Cleveland Clinic, one of the largest and most green hospital networks in the country," said Carrie Abernathy, CMP, CEM, Director of Education, Training & Events for Practice Greenhealth. "With the new convention center and Medical Mart opening in 2013 and making significant strides forward in sustainability and environmental responsibility, we saw a perfect partnership with the city and region."

CleanMed, the premier conference on environmental sustainability for the health care sector, is presented each year by Practice Greenhealth, the leading membership association for hospitals and businesses engaged in sustainable health care, and Health Care Without Harm, the campaign for environmentally responsible health care and advocated for environmental health and justice across the globe.

“We’re thrilled to bring the 2014 CleanMed Conference & Exposition to the new convention center,” David Gilbert, President/CEO of Positively Cleveland, said. “The more than 1,000 attendees will enjoy everything Cleveland has to offer – from our nationally recognized restaurants to our world-class attractions and just about everything in between.”

The conference attracts leaders and key decision makers from across the industry, convening health care professionals, university researchers, designers of professional buildings, and vendors of cleaner and safer products and services. Filled with more than 50 sessions on incorporating sustainability strategies into daily operations, attendees will discuss new trends in greening the healthcare sector, environmentally responsible cleaning for a safer facility, reducing water consumption, sustainable food service, energy conservation, and more.

CleanMed 2014 will attract more than 100 exhibitors, 1,000 attendees, and will occupy more than 1,500 total group room nights in downtown Cleveland hotels with a direct economic impact exceeding $1 million. The conference has been held recently in Baltimore (2010), Phoenix (2011), and Denver (2012) and is scheduled to be in Boston next year.

"The economic impact of the 2014 CleanMed conference will be felt throughout the community," said Tony Prusak, MMPI senior sales director. "With over 1,000 guests in downtown Cleveland for five days, our restaurants, hotels, and other amenities will be filled with people who will be impressed with the quality and quantity of entertainment, dining, and sight-seeing options."
