WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Business Roundtable today released the following statement:
“Business Roundtable commends the House Energy and Commerce Committee for holding a hearing today on medical liability reform. This is an important missing component from the Administration’s health care law. If enacted, medical liability reform has the potential to improve access to care; reduce the rising costs of defensive medicine and liability coverage; and reassure individuals harmed by medical negligence that they will still be protected and have access to a full range of physicians and services.
“Health care costs are inhibiting job creation and damaging our ability to compete in global markets; in fact, our members consistently cite health care as their number-one cost pressure. When medical liability was left out of the health care reform law, Congress missed a critical opportunity to reduce the rate of health care spending.
“With President Obama’s willingness to look at medical liability reform and the Committee’s focus on this issue, prospects for reform have greatly improved. Enacting crucial reforms such as the HEALTH Act will lower costs and help ensure all Americans have access to quality, affordable care.”
