Bay Area Regional Medical Center Scheduled to Open July 21, Expected to Employ 520 Full-Time with Annual Payroll in Excess of $36 Million for Fiscal Year 2014 and Estimated Total Economic Impact of Almost $128 Million by 2018

(), a new hospital created to give Bay Area Houston residents access to advanced technologies and the highest standards of health care, is scheduled to open to patients on Monday, July 21, 2014. Located at 200 Blossom Street in Webster, Texas (77598), Bay Area Regional Medical Center will have a significant direct and indirect economic impact both near-term and long-term for the City of Webster and Houston’s Bay Area.
According to an economic impact analysis completed in June 2014 by University of Houston Clear Lake for Bay Area Regional Medical Center, the hospital is expected to employ 520 people full-time with an annual estimated payroll of $36,264,720 during fiscal year 2014. The total economic impact on the Webster community is estimated at $101,352,826 for fiscal year 2014 and $127,955,607 for fiscal year 2018. The total direct and indirect economic impact includes salaries and wages, property tax, sales tax, payroll tax, income tax, capital expenditures, liability insurance expenses, and maintenance expenses.
The University of Houston Clear Lake developed this economic impact analysis by applying the financial and employment data that was provided by Bay Area Regional Medical Center to an input-output model of Webster’s economy. This analysis was constructed using industry data from the Minnesota IMPLAN Group (MIG) economic impact sector. IMPLAN data from 2012 showed that the private hospital sector (industry sector 397) is the largest industry by labor income and output in Webster, Texas, and the second largest by employment.

Due to an extremely positive response to our recruiting efforts in advance of the hospital’s opening this month, approximately 98 percent of the full-time jobs are already filled. We have recruited many of our physicians and staff from Houston’s Bay Area. We are also working with many local suppliers,” Dr. Lyons added.
Bay Area Regional Medical Center is designed and engineered to accommodate 275 patient rooms in 11 floors when it is fully built out. The Phase II expansion is expected to bring the hospital to a capacity of 202 patient beds by September 2015, and the design and planning for this phase will begin in October 2014. The developer of Bay Area Regional Medical Center is Medistar Corporation, which is headquartered in Houston, Texas.
