Unison Public Sector Health Plan is Now UnitedHealthcare Community Plan in Washington, D.C.

Name change to help UnitedHealthcare strengthen its care provider networks and enhance member service

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Unison Health Plan of the Capitol Area, Inc., serving nearly 54,000 health plan members, has changed its brand name to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan™.

The brand name change, effective Mar. 1, connects Unison with other Medicaid health plans under the UnitedHealthcare banner. By aligning its health benefit companies under a common brand, UnitedHealthcare will continue to strengthen its care provider networks and improve service to its members.

“We are building on the UnitedHealthcare brand and its recognition in the marketplace to make health care simpler and more effective for all those we serve, especially our members, care providers and the District of Columbia,” said Karen M. Johnson, executive director, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan in Washington. “The change to UnitedHealthcare Community Plan enables us to speak with one voice to our members, care providers, employers and other constituents.”

UnitedHealthcare Community Plan has notified members of the change and has sent new identification cards by mail. Current ID cards will be accepted until the new cards arrive in the mail. The change will not affect current relationships with the network of physicians and other health care providers who participate in the health plan.

“Members and care providers can count on us to provide access to the same high-quality services in 2011 and beyond,” added Johnson. “We will continue our tradition of developing innovative health care solutions while providing the compassionate care our members deserve.”

Members may contact the health plan by using the number on their ID card or by calling 1-800-701-7192. A new UnitedHealthcare Community Plan website providing enhanced member and care provider portals for government-sponsored health care plans will be available for D.C. members in April. Members can visit the new site now, www.uhccommunityplan.com, and will temporarily be redirected to the correct location until the new site is functional.
