Humana’s Provider Quality Rewards Program Distributes More Than $35 Million to Primary Care Physicians in Florida

(NYSE: HUM), one of Florida’s leading health and well-being companies, distributed more than $35 million to physicians across the state who participated in the Humana Provider Quality Rewards Program in 2011, the program’s second year.

Close to 900 physician practices in Florida received payments from Humana in recognition of outcome and performance improvements made by their practices last year for their patients who are Humana Medicare Advantage health plan members. Some $22.6 million went to primary care physicians in South Florida, while participating doctors in Central and North Florida received more than $7.5 million in quality incentives from Humana. In addition, Humana paid nearly $4 million in quality bonuses during 2011 to vision providers.

In 2011, Humana distributed nearly $20 million to physician practices across Florida under the program for 2010 performance improvement results.

The $35 million-plus in quality incentives for Florida primary care doctors also included $1.5 million in provider quality rewards to physicians, distributed by CarePlus Health Plans, a Florida Medicare Advantage HMO owned by Humana. Some 1,600 primary care physicians participated in CarePlus’ Quality Rewards Program last year.
