Case dropped against New Orleans nurses

The ordeal is over for two New Orleans nurses who were arrested last summer [1] on second-degree murder charges after Hurricane Katrina. The nurses, Lori Budo and Cheri Landry, had been accused of killing four patients at Tenet's Memorial Medical Center with a "cocktail" of lethal drugs. But the district attorney has now dropped the case, largely because the two testified in a grand jury hearing. The two nurses faced a mandatory life sentence if convicted of the charges.

Still up in the air, however, is the case against Dr. Anna Pou, a physician arrested and booked on second-degree murder charges along with Budo and Landry. Pou is free at the moment, having posted a $100,000 bond.
