Wal-Mart's $4 generics juggernaut [1] just keeps on rolling. Wal-Mart announced today that it would roll out its $4 generics program to 11 more states, bringing the total to 38, while adding 17 more generics to the program. The retail giant has added Idaho, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Utah, Washington and West Virginia to the list of states where it offers $4 generics. Its updated list of drugs new includes 14 of the top 20 most commonly prescribed medications in the U.S., the retailer said. The program is now available in a total of 3,009 Wal-Mart pharmacies. Meanwhile, Wal-Mart is fostering connections with Medicare beneficiaries through a program designating one pharmacy associate per store as a "Medicare Part D expert," trained to help seniors understand Medicare coverage and help them choose an appropriate plan. As of late October, Wal-Mart had enrolled almost 1.1 million seniors for Medicare Part D.
