For Congress, this is moving at light speed--so much so that it leads one to wonder whether their plans are just a bit too optimistic. House speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) promised this week that health reform legislation would not only be drafted, but actually passed, before Congress takes its scheduled August recess.

Her announcement was made from the White House after she, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and chairmen of key committees met with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joseph Biden, who undoubtedly held their feet to the fire over getting something done, fast. So clearly, the president is going to be keeping a very close eye on their progress, which does improve the chances that they'll meet their goal.

As for Obama, he's made it clear what he wants from the legislation: He's said that any reform package would need to contain language that would cut healthcare costs, give individuals a choice in coverage and choosing providers, and offer affordable coverage options.
