Journal revises conflict-of-interest disclosure policies

The New England Journal of Medicine, under fire from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, has changed its procedures regarding conflict-of-interest disclosures. The change came after a letter from the Accreditation Council criticized the journal for not disclosing a study author's financial conflicts of interest. The article was about the effectiveness of CT scans in preventing lung cancer deaths--and the author had received a $3.6 million grant from a cigarette maker. Article [1]
