Position Description

OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of this position is to develop and direct the compliance and reporting tax functions for Takeda’s U.S. Operations. . General responsibilities for this position include developing a staff of six tax professionals and overseeing all tax compliance related activities including: federal and state income tax compliance including FIN 48, sales and use taxes, semi-annual/annual income tax provisions and maintain/update tax department systems and processes. By serving as an internal tax expert, this individual will provide advice and support to the Sr. Director of Taxation and will prepare tax research memoranda and will actively manage the implementation of various tax compliance and reporting projects.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Supervise and develop staff of six highly skilled professionals including the Managers of Federal & State Tax Compliance.
• Provides strategy and planning around staffing, staff development, mentoring along with staff growth and succession planning.
• Manages multiple tax processes and projects.
• Manages the investigation and resolution of technical tax/accounting problems, including those connected with tax returns.
• Reviews working papers, schedules, reports and other correspondence, tax returns, or other items related to tax returns or to tax payments necessary to comply with tax laws, or other items related to accounting for income taxes.
• Translates technical tax matters into non-technical terms for presentation to senior management.
• Supports the Tax Departments response to all merger and acquisition activities including formation of proposed structures and reviewing acquisition/merger documents for tax issues and making suggested changes to such documents.
• Monitors federal and state law changes and determine the impact to the organization.
• Maintains relationships both within and outside of the tax department in order to ensure awareness across the organization of tax issues impacting the organization.
• Responsible for all federal consolidated and multi-state income tax compliance activities including quarterly estimates, extensions and returns.
• Responsible for the completion of semi-annual and annual income tax provisions including FIN 48 analysis.
• Oversee other federal and state tax compliance matters including: research and experimental tax credit, foreign withholding, sales/use, property, unclaimed property, franchise taxes, annual reports, payroll taxes and others.
• Responsible for the maintaining and/or updating current tax department systems and processes.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Required:
• BS/BA in accounting/finance, CPA preferred but not required
• MS in Taxation or a Juris Doctor
• Strong knowledge of federal and state tax law
• Extensive consolidated federal and multi-state tax compliance experience
• Comprehensive understanding of accounting, including FAS 109
• Strong tax research, oral and written skills
• Supervisory experience
• Minimum 12 years of relevant experience
Desired:
• Experience in the pharmaceutical industry
• Public accounting experience
• 5 years of experience within a corporate tax environment
