Position Description
The purpose of this position is to manage the Company’s multiple Federal and State Tax Audits. General responsibilities include reviewing/preparing responses to Information Document Requests (IDR’s) & Notices of Proposed Adjustments (NPA’s), researching tax issues related to the IDRs/NPA’s, negotiations with audit team and participation in appeals processes.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Leads the company’s response to all federal and state tax examinations including management audits, IDR process, and preparation of federal protests.
• Manage and oversee the Company’s position during the audits of state and local tax returns to enable the auditors to understand and accept the reasons for tax positions as reflected on tax returns.
• Responsible for coordinating responses to audit related inquiries including responding to IDR’s & NPA’s.
• The individual in this position will be responsible for providing detailed responses to IDR’s (including the research, interaction with other Company personnel and preparation of well-reasoned, detailed IDR responses).
• Responsible for independently reviewing tax return workpapers and understanding the tax return positions taken to analyze / complete IDRs and Company responses is also required.
• Experience with prefiling agreements, transfer pricing and R&D credit tax controversies
• Exposure to the area of tax financial reporting; including the calculation of the worldwide effective tax rate, FAS 109 and FIN 48 reporting.
• Ensure full compliance of the Company’s corporate governance objectives including J-SOX requirements.
• Proven ability to lead and supervise staff and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Technical skills; the individual must have a working knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and regulations as well as state taxation.
• Assist in the administration and development of assigned personnel including coaching mentoring and developing of analysts within the tax compliance function.
• Liaising with the Company’s internal and external auditors on all aspects of their audit work relating to audit tax issues.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Required:
• B.S. in Accounting, Finance
• MS in Taxation or J.D.
• Minimum 10 years of private or public tax experience
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the area of federal and state tax audits
• Experience in the area of tax compliance; including consolidated federal and state tax return preparation.
Desired:
• Certified Public Accountant
• Experience working in pharmaceutical industry
• Experience with tax compliance software
• Experience with CORPTax and SAP
• Experience working in a large corporate tax department
