Position Description

Challenging opportunity for a Research Associate III, to live and work in Mali, West Africa, full time, with SAIC Frederick, Inc. We are the operations and technical support contractor for the National Cancer Institute-Frederick. You will work with HIV and Tuberculosis research as well as gain international working experience. You will independently perform research under the review of a scientist or serve as the supervisor of a group within a specialized scientific service laboratory and be responsible for maintaining essential laboratory supplies and equipment. Work may involve the use of potentially hazardous chemical, biological, or radiological materials or may be located in areas where such materials are used. May require the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to strict safety protocols.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in a field related to biomedical research or four (4) years equivalent experience in the appropriate field in lieu of degree. is required. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States. Minimum of eight years related biomedical experience is required. Must have the ability to perform complex assignments independently. Must be able to supervise a staff of technical personnel, and initiate a research project by setting up a laboratory; responsible for data triage and quality control evaluations. Must be able to serve as technical authority in the absence of the lead laboratory scientist; have the ability to prepare research plans, proposals, or new production methodologies; may include formal reporting of data including presentations and/or publications; ability to remain knowledgeable in pertinent areas through literature and scientific presentations. Prefer experience in HIV and/or TB-related research; immunology background desirable; well-versed in flow cytometry and general laboratory technique; ability to speak French; computer literacy; good scientific writing skills, strong interpersonal skills; strong organizational skills, ability to multitask effectively; strong problem-solving skills preferred. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust clearance.
