Survey: Care coordination, cost cutting among biggest drivers of telemedicine implementation

Of 120 respondents to a KPMG survey of individuals who work for healthcare providers, 25 percent said their telemedicine programs not only are improving efficiency and patient volumes, but also are financially sustainable.

Still, 35 percent of respondents said their organizations haven't started such programs; 40 percent said they are just getting started.

Increasing patient volumes, coordination of care for high-risk patients and cost cutting all were considered to be big drivers for the use of telemedicine, according to the survey's results. Challenges with starting such efforts, however, include competing technological priorities, organizational readiness and regulatory concerns. Announcement
