High volume of website traffic led to Kaiser Permanente portal issues

Too much website traffic after the holidays was the culprit behind Kaiser Permanente site issues last week, according to the organization.

The 20 percent jump in visits to the website created "load-balancing issues," the San Francisco Business Times reports.

During the outage, which lasted from Tuesday, Jan. 19, through Thursday, Jan. 21, patients were intermittently unable to use the website to make appointments, request prescription refills or email their physicians.

"At no time was the site entirely unavailable, but access issues persisted," Kaiser said in a statement on Wednesday according to the Times. Article
