AHIMA toolkit aims to help HIM professionals understand consumer engagement responsibilities

The American Health Information Management Association has published a consumer engagement toolkit aimed at helping HIM professionals understand their responsibilities associated with the enhancement of the patient experience, particularly as the culture in the industry shifts to an increased use of technology.

"[T]he change in the way patients consumer their health information means today's HIM professional plays an important role in giving healthcare consumers the tools needed to make all interactions and communications with their providers meaningful and efficient," AHIMA CEO Lynne Thomas Gordon said in a statement.

The toolkit outlines changes to the roles of HIM professionals, focusing on, among other things, the best ways to help patients work with clinical staff to access their health records. Post
