MMIC Group Forms Team to Focus on Kansas and Missouri Health Care Providers

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In its efforts to increase its business in Kansas and Missouri, medical liability insurer MMIC Group, Inc. has formed a team that will focus on these markets. The team includes:

  • Luanne George serves as account executive for Kansas and Missouri, marketing MMIC’s products and services and working with agents and brokers with medical professional liability clients.
  • Karen Johnson has been appointed senior claim analyst for Missouri and Kansas, and will evaluate and handle medical liability claims against physicians, hospitals or other health care providers insured by MMIC.
  • Robert Thompson has joined MMIC as business development director, with responsibility for leadership of the company’s marketing and growth plans in Missouri.

  • Luanne George, who joined MMIC earlier this year, has a 30-year industry career. She has held several insurance positions in the Kansas City area, most recently as senior account executive with broker A.J. Gallagher. Prior to that she was a professional liability specialist with the Cretcher-Heartland agency. She has also worked in marketing positions for medical liability insurers Medical Protective and Missouri Medical Insurance Company. She began her career handling insurance claims for a Missouri law firm.
  • Karen Johnson has 30 years’ experience handling medical and general liability claims for hospitals, physician groups and long-term care facilities. Prior to joining MMIC Group, she was claims manager for the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Healthcare System, Inc., a large self-insured network of 11 hospitals.

    She has also held claims positions in Kansas and Missouri for medical malpractice insurers Professional Mutual Insurance Company, Missouri Medical Insurance Company and Pennsylvania Hospital Insurance Company.

    Her background also includes seven years as a litigation specialist with the law firm of Wagstaff & Cartmell LLP, Kansas City, Mo.
  • Robert Thompson has 12 years’ experience in medical professional liability insurance. He began his career with Atlanta-based MAG Mutual and later joined MMIC, working in risk management at the company’s Minneapolis headquarters. Most recently, he worked for Jefferson City, Mo.-based Healthcare Services Group.

    A U.S. Army combat veteran, he graduated first in his class from both the U.S. Army Radiology Technologist School and its Avionics School. He holds a law degree from the University of Georgia, an MBA from Lincoln University and a Master of Laws in dispute resolution from the University of Missouri.

    He has conducted educational seminars and provided medical-legal advice to physicians, hospital and medical practice administration and other healthcare professionals.
