Medicaid update: 22 governors support expansion

Governors in at least 22 states, including four Republicans lawmakers, support expanding their Medicaid programs under the Affordable Care Act, according to an analysis published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

That headcount includes Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who wants her state to participate in Medicaid expansion. Brewer is among several Republican governors who have softened their stance on the ACA provision.

Meanwhile, 15 governors, 13 Republicans and two Democrats, remain undecided. However, a governor's stance does not mean a state will participate in Medicaid expansion because many require legislative action, Reuters reported. Article
