Many Hospitals and Healthcare Organizations Lack a Formal Succession Management Plan

In their new article, “”and of say, “The lack of a succession plan is problematic in an industry where turnover is already relatively high compared to other types of organizations and is expected to increase over the next several years as boomer-generation executives retire in unprecedented numbers. When a top-level executive leaves, critical processes such as strategic planning and new service development are disrupted and other senior leaders often exit. This can be costly, both in terms of time and financial resources, and can affect the organization’s ability to perform at optimum levels.”
The authors use a question-and-answer format to discuss why many hospitals and healthcare organizations lack succession-management plans and how HR can help solve the problem even though succession management is the responsibility of boards and management.
